FREE SITE WITH ADVERTISING VS SERVICE PROVIDER MODEL

Hi Everyone – well we have been looking at our model again and we really are stumped as to why there is not more of a wholesale takeup of the site when we have a “Love It” rating of over 90%. When we first launched we thought people would like the open service provider model we run – Sell a little bit – Pay a little; Use more – Pay More; Want to sell unlimited items – then pre pay for the unlimited plan…just like any internet service provider. We thought that you would all like an “advertising free” site without distracting banners and pop ups!

SOO – here is the 60,000 dollar question; the site costs real money to develop and run; would you rather have a free site for all your buying and selling and we open up to advertisers for revenue or would you all rather continue with very cost effective pre-paid plans. The idea behind the pre-paid plans is that you all know exactly what your outgoings for a store are per month and you never have to reconcile percentages of finals sales fee’s on each item sold and you never have to reconcile your payments against the company. (remember that we do not take part in the transaction)

If you have a better idea of how you would like the site to work – please let us know! If you think there is something wrong with the site or something needs improvement – STAND UP AND VOTE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT!

I know one thing though – we have heaps of buyers coming into the site now but many of our sellers are not responding or logging in to check their messages. If you are a serious trader then get your goods onboard.

Auctions or Not?

Hi Everyone – welcome to the New Year! We hope you and your families had a safe and happy Christmas.

We are wondering if we need to ad an Auction facility for you – the sellers. We havent had any specific requests for an Auction system and we implemented Buy It Now based on the fact that over 85% of all items on other sites appeared to be Buy Now. Can people really be bothered with waiting around for auctions to start & finish or is it about the participating and winning something? winning anything?

You might also have noticed that we implemented a New Pre-paid Plan, $15 to sell as much as you like – thats right; unlimited selling, unlimited listing and unlimited advertising if thats what you would like to do!

Sellmystuff Making a Big Impression.

Well, I finally went and visited www.SellMyStuff.com.au today, and I must say it is a very attractive and nicely designed site, with a different “take” on online selling than most of the sites I look at.

It is set up to work for anyone from a casual seller – $5 for 5 listings for 30 days, to a regular seller – $10 for 30 listings for 30 days, to a large business – $90/month for unlimited listings, all pay-in-advance, not auto-re-billed, and up/down-gradeable. They offer several “refinements” like pay-now, and shop fronts – more at higher levels. All personal contact is allowed/encouraged as are links to ones own website and shopping cart. Listings can be removed/added at any time within the total. They also offer ebay import. There are no other fees that I saw.

A buyer can search by keywords (both in title or description) and location, browse shops or by categories, and sign up for email alerts for new listings matching a search.

Google has 8000+ pages indexed for this site, and their page Titles, URLs, and Descriptions appear to be designed very well for SEO to my eyes. Unfortunately, they do not also appear to be feeding to Google Products, though I do not know how much this might matter in Australia, as Google.com.au (like Google.ca) provides no direct Shopping link on that page.

I only regret that I did not look at this site sooner (mostly because of the country limitation). I wish you the best of luck with your growth.

So we must say many thanks to the Purple Reading Giraffe and other kind souls who have made very positive comments about our site. We have a lot of support in Australia and the ranks keep telling us “Go Forward and Have Faith – You are Heading in the Right Direction”.

Recent sales that we know of – Art Work, Curtains, Baby Stuff, Pizza Slicers, Pandora Charms, Portable DVD Players, Wine, VOIP Phones, Computer Stuff, Toys, Games, Clothes – in fact we know people who have sold everything in their house and that is a testament to a site that is working and is now proven.

International sellers – Yes or No?

One of the current topics is whether we should open the site up to international users. We have received a substantial number of requests from the U.S.A and Hong Kong asking if they can be permitted to sell and buy on the site.

We are open to the idea however the opinion of our users will inevitably make the decision for us.

Please use this blog to have your say and help us decide whether international sellers and buyers would be a good or bad thing for our current users.
